What and where is my kneecap normally?
Your kneecap (patella) is a bone located at the front of your knee. It moves up and down in a vertical groove (the trochlear groove) at the end of your thigh bone (femur), whenever you bend or straighten your knee.
The kneecap is held in place by the shape of the groove, a ligament that acts as a ‘seatbelt’ attached to the side of your kneecap (the medial patellofemoral ligament) and your thigh muscles (the quadriceps).
The primary function of the kneecap is to help with movements of the knee and protection of the joint surface
